Last Friday, 18th May, we had 5 of our staff attending the ”Dynamics 365 Discovery Days” event hosted by Microsoft. The event was held at their lovely 5th floor office in Southbank, Melbourne. It was the first Dynamics 365 Discovery Day for most of us. The event was designed to educate beginner level users, or users with no prior experience, however at HSD we believe even the pros need exposure to the ever-changing landscape if we are to stay at the top of our game. This event not only proved but showcased the versatility of Microsoft Dynamics 365 along with the Business Application Platform and how to use them to accelerate business capabilities.

The event was well planned and had three main sessions. All sessions were delivered by Microsoft Technology Specialists. The speakers were great and were willing to share their knowledge and industry experience with the attendees.

The Start:

After the registration and some coffee we went in for the sessions. We were given a survey at the start and most had chosen to see new and cool features instead of the usual Dynamics 365 features we use every day.

Session 1: I, Microsoft Bot

The first session kicked off with a brief on Dynamics 365, how it fits within the Microsoft platform strategy and the possibilities it opens up to businesses. Karthik Uthanumallian and Scott Meddings (from Microsoft) went on to demo some of many new and exciting services and features Microsoft offers. They discussed about “Azure Cognitive Services”, “Azure Bot Service” with live examples and how to use “Microsoft QnA Maker” to build, train and publish a simple question and answer bot within minutes.

Then the cool tech came out. An IoT device that can be integrated with Dynamics 365, and to top it off, a background workflow built using “Microsoft Flow” that would automatically perform tasks on predefined IoT events.

What does this mean?

  • Now we can harness the power of IoT to detect and diagnose problems before customers become aware of an issue
  • Businesses can take proactive measures which is cost effective compared to reactive servicing

I believe IoT devices will play a big role in the coming years and businesses should start investing in this technology now and build a strong service culture to gain a competitive advantage.
